Golf mentality

One of the most important things about getting good score on the course of playing golf is the mentality of the player.

Mentality of golf is the same as mentality of any other sports or in life. It requires the player to know their strength and limit. So they can avoid pushing the limit and make the most out of their strength to achieve the goals that they have set. Everyone has thier own path of success, it will not be the same for 2 people.

However, people who just started playing golf are often being mislead by the golf industry to hit the ball as hard as possible because the pro players are being measured by how far they can drive, not how accurate their shots are. Very often, this leads to over the top or harder swing. In result, they drove shorter and developed bad habits along the way. People who have played golf for a while will gradually understand the important of not over do any of these but it usually is too late for them to correct the mistake they have developed.

The right mentality of golf are and not limited to:

1) Do not over do. Know what you can do and keep doing it. Swinging harder does not directly translate into more yardages.
2) Believe that you can't do what other people can do. Every person is different. Not every one is Tiger Wood, or Michael Jordan but it doesn’t mean that you can’t win. If Tiger Wood or Michael Jordan are not supposed to lose, then there would be no sports.
3) Know your strength and keep practicing your strength. Once you have mastered your strength then moved on to your weakness. Your strength is what will keep you confident and also what will save you on a bad round of golf on anyday.

If one can do all of the above, then the game of golf will be more enjoyable.

1. The reason "swing harder" fail to be executed because all other proper swinging mechanics are destroyed when simply more force is exerted. I think swing harder is not the error, not knowing how to use force with proper mechanics is the issue.

Not to mention about imitating the pros, that can only be done after one has broken one's own limiation. How to do the first step by advancing to next level? Can't go out simply believing your best is just going to be so so. This thought is a big barrier itself to begin with. Believing is doing, it has to be true.

I knew this going to come back as I was struggling to find the right word for this and yet you expressed it so easily. I totally agree with you on not placing a barrier on yourself.

That's why at the beginning of the article I pointed out that this is to get good score on the course with what you have because course is not a place for practicing.

Finally, I am big fan of "Record is supposed to be broken, otherwise, there will be no sports.".
