Although the product they offers are no way close to be identical, one is to build a business while the other offers religious believes, they both work in a similar way where it relies on a concept of building a triangle network, or a pyramid.

In MLM, there is the founder which similar to the pastor at a church. In MLM, each person has to pay an initiation fees to becomes an independent agent while in church, one must first believe. MLM offers seminars to get the independent agents familiar with their products and to provide the skills/information for them, which is similar to the church retreats, bible studies, and Sunday Church. In order to be successful in the MLM, each independent agent is required to go out, try promoting the products, and recruit their independent agents . This is similar to the the activities of promoting the Gospels in Church.

The success of MLM and church are determined by the size of the network that was built, in other words, the number of independent agents (for MLM) or followers (for church). Their success are heavily relied on the influence of the founder or the pastor.

No offense to either systems but it's interesting to learn about the similarities on how their systems work.

Cigarettes, stress, and age

Is there a relationship between stress and cigarettes? In our day to day life, we usually notice that people who smoke tend to have something bothering them. We seldom see people around us that smoke with a happy face. Is it they smoke because of stress, they stress because of smoking, or there is really no relationship between them.

Let's see. When a person stresses, he/she needs to relax and let's his/her mind settle without doing anything. For most of us, doing nothing seems like an action that's purposeless. What if he/she is smoking? Doesn't it provide a purpose for the "doing nothing" moment? It does, doesn't it? The same arguement can be used on drinking coffee as well. All these doings provide a purpose to a period of time when one needs to do nothing just to settle down his/her mind.

What about age? We see all the young teens that smoke. What stress do they have in that early age? Stress about getting a girlfriend, about the misunderstanding of their parents, about grades? None of that, I think. When we were teenager, smoking is a symbol of coolness. When we are adult in 20s and 30s, smoking is a symbol of stress. When we are after late 30s, smoking is a symbol of bad health.

In summary, people smoke for different reasons throughout their lives. All of all, people try to get rid of smoking for the same reason, health, and usually at a later age when lives are not that stressful. For people who have stress, smokers will smoke more, non-smoker will either start smoking or find some habits for them to be able to relax and calm down.

As I am done writing, I don't know what I am trying to express. I guess I have a lot going on in my mind. Perhaps, I should start smoking.

Relationships

In today's diversified society, relationship between 2 persons has become more complicated than ever. We not only have to deal with racial differences, but also religion, cultural, and language differences. Among all these differences, we deal with racial, cultural, and language differences in our day to day life among our friends, classmates, and co-workers. Because of that, learning how to deal with these differences is relatively easy. Though, the hardest to deal with is the religion differences, especially between spouses when it involves emotion. Even though it's the hardest, it's not impossible to resolve. The key to resolve differences are RESPECT and COMMUNICATION. Like friends, classmates, and co-workers, we learned to respect each others and communicate the differences with open mind.

Speak mind or say yes

How many times have we faced with a situation where you were asked to speak your mind but the responses you were getting afterward suggest otherwise. At the end, you felt like you should have said "yes". But then, what's the point of asking? If people can't accept that fact that everyone has their own opinions and we don't always agree with each others but the most important thing is the effort and the compromises we put in to get the work done, how do we really get along with people? Isn't this the fundamental of being a human, to compromise, to discuss the differences, and to agree on something that we feel would have the least unsatisfaction for everyone? We need this at work with co-workers, at home with family, and places with friends and so forth. While you were trying to do just that, what if the receiving end isn't willing to do so? What would you do then? To me, that's a misery that I have yet to solve. Until then, I will just say "yes".

Religion

Is being non religious a bad thing? Not everyone can really remove their past successes.

One may ask why do we need to remove our past successes? We in today's society are being judged by our past successes. It is being used to measure talent. So, why it could be bad?

If one hold on to it too much, it can be a blocking stone to his future success. It will prevent an open mind. It will blind one's sight for better ideas. It will prevent one from learning. How many of us are being tighten by this?

So, what is it really means? It means don't let your past successes stop you from seeing or trying new things. He was once married to a model who is everything a man want. They were the perfect couple at their wedding ceremony. However, he divorced the model after a few months later and later married a sales woman he met in a department store. His second wife is everything but the first wife.

One day, his friends asked him why he got rid of the gorgeous lady and married a normal woman while he can get any woman he wants. He started telling a story.

One day, while he was busy at work, his wife called and asked if he can pick up a ABC sauce at Albertson on the way home. On his way home, he stopped by Albertson for the sauce. Since he was in a rush, he picked up a bottle of XYZ sauce and went home. When he got home, he realized that he picked up the wrong bottle but he was too lazy to go back to the store to get the right bottle. So, he apologized to his wife that he picked up the wrong bottle thinking that she would forgive him. Instead, his wife was very angry that he picked up the wrong bottle and insisted that he went back to the store to get it. He tried to convince her that he didn’t mean it and it’s late to go back to the store but he can pick another one up on the way home tomorrow night but his wife didn’t compromise. At the end, he went back to the store to pick up the ABC. A few months later, they got divorced.

A year later, he married the current wife. One day, he got a call from her who asked him to pick up a bottle of ABC sauce on his way home. With his previous experience, he wanted to see her reaction if he picked up the wrong bottle. So, he stopped by Albertson’s and purposely picked up the XYZ sauce. When he got home, he apologized to his wife that he picked up the wrong brand. To his surprise, his wife said “Honey, it's OK. No matter what it is, as long as it's from you, it will always be the best.”

At that moment, he suddenly realized he had made the right decision to marry this woman.

The story tells us to know what’s more important to us. Is it the ABC sauce, or the thing that he forgot to do, or your other half? Don’t let the little things in your life spoils the relationship between you and your love one. They did it not because they mean it, it’s just because they forgot. Relationship is about you and your love one.

If I have ..., I will ....

If I have ...., I will .... I have heard this many times in my life. Often, I heard it from someone who has just missed an opportunity which would have brought him/her a great reward. Too often, these people continue to think about the opportunity missed. What they don't realize is that a lot of different opportunities have gone passed their sides and they were too busy thinking about the one opportunity that they missed.

There is only so much one can do about their past but there are a lot of things that one can do for their future. At that time, I was in my junior year in Oklahoma State University for my undergrad degree. The reason why this quote strucked me was because I never thought I would go to college and get a degree.

I came from a small town in Malaysia where majority of my schoolmates were either got into local polytechnic colleges or started working after high school. I wasn't the brightest kid in my class and I didn't expect myself to do anything extra ordinary. After my high school graduation, the only thing I could think of is to get a job and buy a car. Owning a nice car was like having a higher social status in my hometown and it's a must to get a girlfriend. At that time, that seems to be the logical thing to do. Luckily, my parents gave me a chance to do something different. Though, it seems like it's the hardest thing to do but I went with it, just to give it a chance. Today, 13 years later, I see the difference.

Although life doesn't really turn out the way I planned, I feel very lucky to end up where I am today. Now, I have a wonderful wife, a good job, and the freedom to do almost anything I want. It's all because of my parents who gave me that one chance. If it wasn't because of them, my life would be totally different.

Fat shot - The cure

Recently, I went into a slump where I kept hitting fat shots. I finally realized that it was my posture that's causing all the problem. I had most of my weight on the toe.

When all of your weight is on the toe, your body will tend to dip down during the down swing. Thus, causing the club head to swing lower and hit behind the ball. The cure is simple. It's to make sure you have good balance on your feet. Not on the toe nor the heel. In contrast, if most of your weight is on the heel, it usually cause the club head to swing higher as the body raises during the down swing. This can also be explained as lose balance during the swing.

In short, a posture with good balance is essential to hit the ball more consistently.

Game plan to lower golf score that works for me

1) Play more often. It's a long and time consuming process.

With more access to movie files like Dvix, mpg (mpeg-4), avi, and so on, it's almost sure that there should be some standalone player that can play it without having to convert it into the DVD format. Then, you can store more movies onto a single DVD disc.

So, there is this Philips DVP642. It comes with progressive scan and it can plays almost any movie file format that you throw at it.

It all started when my new Hong Kong engineer lend me some Hong Kong movies in mpg or Dvix format. While my DVD player couldn't play them successfully, I asked how is she viewing the movies knowing that she is probably watching them on computer. Surprisingly, she has a DVD player from China that plays everything. Out of curiousity, I started searching for one in the US knowing that it would save me tons of time and the long process from finding the right softwares to convert them into DVD format. I finally came across this DVD players that costs only $50 at Circuit City. Read bunch of reviews about how well it plays all the movie fromats.

So, I finally picked one up 3 weeks ago and I am surprisingly satisfied with the quality of the movie. Now, I just have to burn the movie files onto the DVD and I will be able to enjoy the movies on my big screen TV.

PRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=3">http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=100066&WT.mc_n=3&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=CNET&cm_pla=DATAFEED->PRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=3

Tear Drop TD 411 Putter review

This is the TD411 putter with rolled face technology (RFT) and Dynamic Loft Technology (DLT). The last 3 scores were on the Las Positas Executive 9 hole course.

Today, I had 19 total putts on a 9 hole game which matches my average so far since I started tracking the putting. Overall, I shot a 42 on a par 31 course.

I am amazed how well it controls the distance as this is the first time I used the putter without actually using it on the practice green before teeing off. The distance control is definitely better than the Spalding Putter that I have been using for years. I had more sub 3 feet 2nd putts that I can remembered.

Overall, I like the distance control that the putter is giving me so far. It requires the player to know their strength and limit. So they can avoid pushing the limit and make the most out of their strength to achieve the goals that they have set. Everyone has thier own path of success, it will not be the same for 2 people.

However, people who just started playing golf are often being mislead by the golf industry to hit the ball as hard as possible because the pro players are being measured by how far they can drive, not how accurate their shots are. Very often, this leads to over the top or harder swing. In result, they drove shorter and developed bad habits along the way. People who have played golf for a while will gradually understand the important of not over do any of these but it usually is too late for them to correct the mistake they have developed.

The right mentality of golf are and not limited to:

1) Do not over do. Know what you can do and keep doing it. Swinging harder does not directly translate into more yardages.
2) Believe that you can't do what other people can do. Every person is different. Not every one is Tiger Wood, or Michael Jordan but it doesn’t mean that you can’t win. If Tiger Wood or Michael Jordan are not supposed to lose, then there would be no sports.
3) Know your strength and keep practicing your strength. Once you have mastered your strength then moved on to your weakness. Your strength is what will keep you confident and also what will save you on a bad round of golf on anyday.

If one can do all of the above, then the game of golf will be more enjoyable.

Failure quotes by famous people

The man who forms the habit of beginning without finishing has simply formed the habit of failure.

•Mrs. Charles E. At the end of the episode, the lead scientist of the crime lab was asked if he has ambition to take on more responsibilities in the same sense of a promotion. The lead scientist replied, “Ambition is the last refuge of failures”.

Being as curious as I am, I started looking into this quote from the internet and try to find out its exact meaning. It returns different meanings.

Some said, it means that ambition breeds failure because through ambition that one is more finely tuned to failure.

Some said it’s through failure one becomes more ambitious.

Some also said, it means exactly what it’s read. Ambition is the last protection or shelter of failure. So, failures are OK when there are still ambitions.

I thought ambition is what gives the person the will to success. But this quote almost implies the exact opposite of that point. It’s almost saying that one will eventually fail if he has ambitions. It's really contradictory.

Ups and downs in life

Life is like a roller coaster, there are ups and there are downs. That's really what makes life interesting and the unpredictable part of it also makes life miserable and sometime exciting.

There is an old chinese saying, it translates to, "Don't give up when fail and don't be proud when success". This is a great sentence because a lot of success come after failures. Downs are always followed by ups which is true for almost everything in life. The most important thing is, don't repeat the same mistake twice.

Downs should be viewed as a motivation to get to higher ground and ups should be viewed as an alert for getting lazy or slowing down.

什麼是待友之道?

- Is it no matter what his decision is, you will support him 100% without saying a word?

To be continue....

Bill Swanson's 25 Unwritten Rules of Management

A few good pointers for the management world.

1. Don't assume it will get done!
12. Don't be timid; speak up. Express yourself, and promote your ideas.
13. Practice shows that those who speak the most knowingly and confidently often end up with the assignment to get it done.
14. Strive for brevity and clarity in oral and written reports.
15. Be extremely careful of the accuracy of your statements.
16. Don't overlook the fact that you are working for a boss.* Keep him or her informed. Avoid surprises!* Whatever the boss wants takes top priority.
17. Promises, schedules, and estimates are important instruments in a well-ordered business.* You must make promises. Don't lean on the often-used phrase, "I can't estimate it because it depends upon many uncertain factors."
18. Never direct a complaint to the top. A serious offense is to "cc" a person's boss.
19. When dealing with outsiders, remember that you represent the company. Be careful of your commitments.
20. Cultivate the habit of "boiling matters down" to the simplest terms. An elevator speech is the best way.
21. Don't get excited in engineering emergencies. Keep your feet on the ground.
22. Cultivate the habit of making quick, clean-cut decisions.
23. When making decisions, the pros are much easier to deal with than the cons. Your boss wants to see the cons also.
24. Don't ever lose your sense of humor.
25. Have fun at what you do. It will reflect in your work. No one likes a grump except another grump.

無求與有求

My friend just wrote me this.

You and Jien always mention less desire and know what is enough, demand less and thus feeling satisfied always. Well, good philosophy, nothing wrong with this. Just that I or maybe jeff might post a different attitude, we actually show there is some "want and desire" in life to gain more satisfaction.

Now I don't understand one thing, how could person who announce less desire have built-up loans while person who declare to desire something has nothing, virtually debt free? Logically this does not make sense right? Isn't it should be the other way around?

Ahh, not going into the arguement of who is right and what justification is behind, turth is reality and mindset does not match. One has to be honest to oneself, you actually have more desire and more needs. I think you need to change your title to: "You Qiu".

"Realizing insufficiency will lead to a contented heart, with desire one knows where demand lies."

With this, I respect the hunger and motive behind, as a man you rise the guts and go after your prey, honestly.

It's all in perspective, Jen. There is only a fine line between "wu qiu" and "you qiu".

I agree that "wu qiu" is a noble word. There are very few people can be that. The "wu qiu" that I refer to is more like, buying a car rather than a fancy BMW that doesn't fit our lifestyle; having a house rather than a mansion that we only use 25% of the space.

Alive not dead

http://www.alivenotdead.com

Golf grip

Golf grip is probably the most important fundamental of golf.
